Yerevan Zoo

Yerevan Zoo, Armenia: detailed description, address and photos. Types of animals, tours around the zoo, tourist reviews.

Yerevan has a wonderful place for walks, even with children, but it is always a pleasure and joy for both adults and children – it is the Yerevan Zoo. During such walks the interests of children completely coincide with the interests of their parents, as if they were back in their childhood.

Yerevan Zoo was founded before the war in 1941 of the last century. One of the initiators who came up with that interesting proposal was professor Artavazd Sarkisov, while one of the authors of the plan of the zoological garden was architect Grigori Aghababyan. The annual attendance of the zoo is about one hundred thousand guests.

If you come to the zoo at feeding time, you can see the most interesting and breathtaking performance – a meal of raptors.

Today, a variety of animals from different regions, from the Caucasus to all continents of the planet are collected here – about 2,749 animals, 300 species (mammals, birds, invertebrates, reptiles, fish).

For the 70th anniversary in 2011, the zoo received ibex, mandrill monkeys, wari lemurs, Egyptian flying dogs and other unique specimens. There are also many zoo-born animals.

The Zoological Garden of Yerevan, spread over 25 hectares of picturesque territory in the northeast of the city, in addition to the process of learning about the animal world, has carousels for children, amazing sculptures made of the most unexpected material (for example, a big blue elephant created by children’s hands from plastic bottles). There is, of course, also a live elephant, Grant – a very cute huge creature.

Yerevan Zoo gives its guests the opportunity not only to see the animals, but also to interact with them intimately.

Conditions here are created as close to the wilderness as possible, the method of “getting” food is practiced.

For example, bears have to work hard to get fruit and vegetables well hidden in ice cubes, huge tigers have to jump up several meters for their cherished piece of meat, big cats “attack” closed boxes (“prey”) in order to get food from there. If you come to the zoo during feeding hours, you can see the most interesting and breathtaking performance – a meal of predators.

On holidays there is a whole show with interesting programs, puppet theater, clowns, mascots (cartoon and fairy tale characters).

Having satiated with the sights, rides and communication with the animals, you can also quench your physical hunger in the numerous cafes right on the territory of the zoo.

Today this attractive place is always full of tourists and the people of Yerevan themselves. A visit to the pride of the capital, Yerevan Zoo, literally buried in verdure, is always an unforgettable holiday! And those who wish to take part in it, you just need to come here and get a ticket: the inhabitants of this wonderful place in Yerevan will provide good mood and a lot of positive emotions.
